Why Posters? Why Wine, Watches, Cars, or Warhol’s…Why collect anything?

 

Art Collectors take on many forms, but the universal truth is that they love what they love, so far be it for me to be their arbiter of taste. I myself chase a certain look, but celebrate the broad spectrum of collectors who aim to create beauty in their “own” spaces. The poster market is accessible and my motivation is driven by both memories and access. Having grown up as a ski racer in blisteringly cold, but beautiful Stowe Vermont, imagine my joy of acquiring a rare Sascha Maurer Stowe Vermont Ski lithography as my 1st Poster. Beginners Luck? Sure, but I’m of the belief that you create your own Luck, and can curate an amazing collection too.

Poster Art Collectors drive the art market in so many ways. Of course there’s only 1 original Warhol Painting, but there could be 2,000-3,000 original "After" posters created from the original artwork. Fun fact is that Larry Gagosian, started his career selling posters, and built an empire. Poster collecting can be an incredible way to diversify your investment portfolio. It could be You who stumbles upon Man Ray’s London Underground Saturn Poster? A $500 find could easily top $100,000!.

My motivation is to collect what I love, and to remind me of special places or one's locations that I dream of visiting. You’ll see a recurring theme here of skiing, travel, cycling and just cool posters that are nostalgic reminders of the fun that life offers each of us, most from simpler times.

 

And with some bias here, I connect with the refinement of post war modernism as an outcrop of the1950’s. This window resonates “COOL” and a “Giddy Up” approach to life. If you don’t find a poster you like from me, let me help you find it for You elsewhere. They are out there…. And I assure you you’ll remember the day you fell in love w/ your first poster. Mine was when I made my dad stop at a Citroen Dealership in Paris on my way to school. Together we eyeballed the coolest posters for cars that still make the heart beat faster!
